Unfortunately you cannot use it on Windows Vista. To make calls on this OS, download Skype for Windows Vista.

Please note that this is not my Skype. This is the official installer downloaded from the official website.

As for your issue, tell me what's your OS version and provide the URL of the Skype access checker report.

Skype (7.36.0.150) on Windows XP machines is officially DEAD, and will not. You will always receive a Skype message stating '... cannot connect ...'

The official statement from Microsoft/Skype is: "Skype support for Windows XP and Vista users has ended. You will need to update your OS to Windows 7 or higher to continue using Skype on the same device."

An alternative possibility to use Skype on WinXP is to use the IE browser & URL https:\\login.live.com using your Skype log-in details/password. Have not yet tested this on a WinXP machine, but the URL runs OK on a Win7 machine

As an technical support guy, info from this site saved me from headache for years, now time for redemption:

For those who still need to use winxp willingly or unwillingly, open chrome, install the chrome extention, switch user agent to edge and windows, and you will able to login web skype now.

Hi! Thank you for sharing. Another way is to change user agent via command line. Stay in touch. I plan to publish detailed instructions soon.

That solution works like a charm! I'm using the agent switcher mentioned below - it allows you to change the agent only on particular domain, so I've entered web.skype.com and set it up to Chrome 73: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/73.0.3683.56 Safari/537.36

Hello! Unfortunately, Microsoft has disabled Skype 7 and users cannot use it anymore on any operating systems. At this moment the only known solution is to use Skype for Web on Windows XP and Windows Vista.

I have a problem with the new skype for web which I have thanks to yourselves. Had to look for something new as I still use windows XP (SP3) 32 bit and microsoft (god bless them) have decided that I should not be able to use skype 7 any more. I am signing on using my old skype ident and password. This new skype works perfectly well in audio only BUT for video whenever some one tries to call me on video and I press the video icon (top right of the new skype screen and without colour) they are cut off. The same happens when I call them. I have just been through your software requirements and I think I meet them all although I am unsure about the Windows Installer 4.5 although google says I MUST have it or I would not be able to load any applications. I am using the latest possible Chrome browser for Windows XP (which is the one you specify). What am I doing wrong please?

    [Updated ]
In fact I discovered that my computer had only level 3 of the Windows Installer. I have since downloaded level 4.5. Could THAT have been the problem?

    [Updated ]
Well nobody commented on my last note but things have changed a bit. I just was able to have a hour long conversation with my brother in New Zealand (I am in Spain) but could not get the video to work at all no matter what buttons I pressed, I could get a whole live screen of myself (!) and if I pressed another button a very small circle with my own picture (still) but no way could I see HIS live picture or he mine. Can SOMEONE please tell me what I am doing wrong. Everything else seems normal skype stuff.

Hello David! Video calls on Windows XP are working only for web-to-web calls. That is, it won't work if your brother don't use Skype for Web.

so yet another Microsoft trick eh! They really are apalling. I WISH I could do without them nowadays but just too difficult to contemplate a change.

In fact, it does not officially support Windows XP, so this does not surprise me. As I already wrote, no one can guarantee neither proper work nor long-term support.
