Along with cookie files, an error that JavaScript is not supported can puzzle every user who does not know that Skype for Windows uses the functions of Internet Explorer to display the login form.

Microsoft account requires JavaScript to sign in. This web browser either does not support JavaScript, or scripts are being blocked. To find out whether your browser supports JavaScript, or to allow scripts, see the browser's online help.

In some cases, the text of the error is not displayed – you see only a white screen and the inscription at the bottom “Sign in with a different account”.

But you shouldn’t confuse it with the problem of Blank white screen in Skype for Windows, when nothing is displayed. At the time of writing this article, all the bugs I know, related to JavaScript, could be corrected as follows:

Solution

If you have Windows XP, first of all enable AES-256 for Windows XP. As a rule, it should fix the error.
Download the script enable_javascript.bat
Press right click on the file and select “Run as administrator”
As a result, you will get two (on Windows XP) or three (other operating systems) notifications of successful completion of DLLRegisterServer. If an error “Unable to find the specified module” appears, copy the text of the error by pressing Ctrl+C and write in the comments.
After the script completes its work, a notepad with the report will open (don’t close it)
Reset Internet Explore settings
Start Internet Explorer (C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe)
Open the menu “Tools” (in newer versions of IE, the gear icon)
Select “Browser options” (in older versions of IE, “Internet options”)
Open the “Security” tab, click “Select the default security level for all zones” and click “Apply”
In the same tab, click ”Other” (referring to the level of security)
Find “Scripting” and make sure that it is set to “Enabled” for the “Active scripting” option (if not, put the check mark)
Press “OK” (to close the “Security Settings”)
Click “OK” again (to close the “Internet Options”)
Then close Internet Explorer
Start Skype

P.S. It should be noted that in most cases, the script enable_javascript.bat fixes the bug, but for sure recommend to execute the instructions to the end.

P.P.S. If as a result the error was not corrected, copy the report from the notepad (step 4) and place it in the comments. Also, using Internet Explorer check access to Skype and provide the URL of the report.

Issues is not fixed for me. Brand new laptop with latest updates and Skype not logging in. Just sitting and spinning. After trying to go back and "login with a different user" receive Java required message. Here is the report of Skype Access page 0E07-6A33-FDBB-AC9F-16A6

I was getting login screen OK, but JavaScript message on resetting password/new account. I did the above, then the "blank page" link, tried the defaults and reinstall of IE - no luck (perhaps the resetting pages require later JS). So, I asked someone else with working Skype to reset my user password, told them the new one and the code in an email that I received, and after that it logged in fine. Don't get the home screen, but calls/video seem to work OK. Thanks for your help.

Troed the fix, but enable_javascript.bat won't run on my computer. That means, I can click on "Run" but nothing happens.

I've reset IE8 (I have xp), but Skype still won't work.

Ran the BAT file and got these errors:

Did all the steps, but I'm getting the same message that JavaScript is required to sign in.

I tried to run the .bat file, but it doesn't ask me to run it as administrator... anyway, javascript is enabled but skype still doesn't work. windows xp (old version)

On my Win10 Lenovo laptop a fresh installation of Skype works perfectly. But after a reboot or shutdown it generates the Java-script error. So is the problem in Skype or does something alter Skype during shutdown or startup?
I keep a copy of the Skype installation file handy and just do a re-install whenever Skype is needed
